Adding times by hand trips people up because minutes roll over at 60, not 100. This does the carrying for you.
Time calculator
Enter up to five times. Use − to subtract a line.
How it works
Every line is turned into seconds, added or subtracted, and turned back into hours, minutes and seconds. 2 h 45 m plus 1 h 30 m is 4 h 15 m, which is 4.25 decimal hours.
Why decimal hours differ
Decimal hours count tenths and hundredths of an hour, not minutes. 15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5 and 45 minutes is 0.75. Payroll systems often want decimal hours: see the time to decimal calculator.
Common uses
- Adding up the time on several tasks or invoices.
- Totaling video or audio clip lengths.
- Working out how long is left: put the total first and subtract what is done.
